Introducing "Mappers", a new feature for seamless data integration

Updated: Oct 7

We are proud to announce the launch of our new feature: Mappers. This new feature effortlessly transforms any data model into meaningful insights.

How does “Mappers” work?

Mappers allow users to easily map their CSV file to any item located in Kabaun, without a single line of code. Mappers allow to:

  • Import large amounts of data in a few clicks

  • Associate emission factors, categorise the emissions and calculate them automatically

The Mappers functionality goes beyond simple data import, providing a customizable mapping structure that aligns with specific organizational needs. This ensures that every element of the CSV file is accurately integrated and interpreted within the platform.

Once configured, this clear and precise mapping process allows all users within the platform to effortlessly import their CSV files, significantly improving the efficiency and customization of their projects. Additionally, the flexibility offered by "Mappers" enables tailored project management, smart categorization of emissions data, and alignment with regulatory requirements, ensuring that the imported information is not only comprehensive but also strategically organized.

Use case example: Mapping ERP data to Kabaun for enhanced carbon accounting

Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems contain a wealth of data that can be leveraged for carbon accounting, and Kabaun's new "Mappers" feature significantly streamlines this process. This powerful feature allows users to map their CSV files directly to Kabaun items, automating the association of emission factors and categorization of emissions. The seamless integration between ERP data and carbon accounting software addresses a critical challenge in sustainability reporting – the fragmentation of data across various systems and departments. With Mappers, companies can now easily consolidate information from different business functions such as manufacturing, supply chain, and energy management, providing a comprehensive view of their carbon footprint. This not only saves time and reduces the potential for human error but also enables more frequent and accurate emissions calculations.

Mappers x API: it’s a match

The combination of Mappers and API functionality creates a seamless and efficient data integration process for carbon accounting. Users can define their data mapping structure using the user-friendly Mappers interface, allowing them to establish how their ERP or other data sources correspond to the carbon accounting framework. Once this mapping is set up, the API can automatically and regularly push data into the system according to the predefined mapping rules. This integration eliminates the need for manual file uploads, ensuring consistent and error-free data imports.

For instance, organizations can map their energy consumption data from their ERP to specific emission categories using Mappers and then utilize the API to refresh this information daily or in real time. This powerful combination provides the flexibility and customization of manual mapping alongside the efficiency and timeliness of automated data transfers, significantly enhancing the carbon accounting process.

Conclusion

The new "Mappers" feature enhances our carbon management platform by allowing users to effortlessly map their .csv files to Kabaun items without any coding. This functionality streamlines data import and ensures strategic categorization of emissions. The combination of Mappers and API functionality further enables real-time data integration, making carbon accounting more efficient and accurate.
